The science of patience is the fifth of ten topics within the project “Listen first” of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), which is implemented in cooperation with the Office for Combating Drugs of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and representatives of government agencies and organizations at the central as well as at the local level of government that deal with the problem of drug abuse within their competence.
A global initiative called “Listen first” aims to highlight the importance of science-based drug addiction prevention as an effective means of investing in a healthy future. Social studies show that children whose parents apply a system of punishment when introducing discipline and who tend to express negative emotions, such as anger or rage, become more depressed and grow worse in school than those whose parents nurture traits such as patience and self-control.
Nurturing positive traits such as patience, self-control and emotional intelligence significantly contributes to the development of brain functions in children.
