Тhe Office for Combating Drugs of The Government of the Republic of Serbia presented a project “Listen first” at a conference held on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, on June 25, 2021.

The global campaign “Listen first” was created on the initiative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and in cooperation with the Office for Combating Drugs of The Government of the Republic of Serbia the project will be implemented in the Republic of Serbia, which is one of only a few countries where this global project will be implemented.

The Institute for Improvement of Education at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development has given prior consent to the quality and content of materials, which is a decisive step for the implementation and realization of the project in the Republic of Serbia.

Listen first began as a campaign on science-based drug prevention to raise awareness around listening to children and youth as the first step to help them grow healthy and safe in an entertaining way through animated videos and written educational material – pamphlets.

The campaign targets parents, teachers, policy makers, health workers and prevention workers particularly as well as the wider public.Materials are currently available in english, french, spanish, italian and serbian language.

The project is divided into ten topics and each topic deals with another segment important for the proper upbringing of children. The topics covered by the project are:

• The Science of Affection
• The Science of Family Activities
• The Science of Active Listening
• The Science of Play
• The Science of Patience
• The Science of Physical Activity
• The Science of Praise
• The Science of Respect and Information
• The Science of Routine
• The Science of Keeping Busy

The planned time period for the realization of the project is six months, starting from July 2021, which makes this project the longest project in the field of drug abuse prevention.
