On the initiative of the Multidisciplinary Team of the City of Šabac, in cooperation with the Institute for Public Health and the Sports Association, on the last day of November, the “Make a good choice” forum at the Medical School “Dr. Andra Jovanović” marked the month of the fight against addiction. On this occasion, the students of the city school, which has been awarded several times in the field of sports, released a hundred balloons as a sign of support for young people who are facing this
problem.

Bearing in mind that according to the International and National Health Calendar, the month of November is dedicated to the fight against addiction, members of the local Team, established with the aim of systemic prevention and action against the use of psychoactive substances, took the opportunity to send important messages to young people. The Medical School was chosen as the host of this educational meeting precisely because of the numerous sports awards of its students and the constant promotion of health through teaching programs and extracurricular activities.

As it is a forum of a preventive nature with a special focus on promoting healthy lifestyles through practicing daily physical activity and playing sports, the material of the “Listen carefully” project of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) was also presented at the forum. strategic support of the Office for the Combating Drugs of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and other relevant bodies of state administration both at the central and local levels of government through the continuous activity of multidisciplinary teams, carried out on the territory of the Republic of Serbia during 2021. The materials of the “Science of Physical Activity” project, which were presented to the students of the secondary medical school on that occasion, aim to indicate that continuous physical activity significantly contributes to the improvement of the quality of life.

The Health Promotion Department of the Institute for Public Health presented the results of research by the Institute of Public Health of Serbia and the European School for the Prevention of Alcohol and Other Drugs, conducted in order to monitor trends in the use of psychoactive substances and risky behavior among the population of high school students.

One part of the forum is dedicated to the presentation of the program “Sports in schools – Grow healthy”, which the Sports Association implements with the support of the City of Šabac, and all other school activities of this umbrella city sports organization with the aim of engaging children from the youngest age to top sports.
