On December 11 and 12, 2023, the 17th Policy Consultative Group Meeting of the Paris Pact Partnership to Combat Illicit Traffic in Opiates Originating in Afghanistan was held in Vienna. The Paris Pact is one of the most important frameworks in the fight against opiates originating in Afghanistan, it aims to reduce the illicit trade in opiates, including the cultivation of opium poppy, the production and global consumption of heroin and other opiates, and to establish a broad international coalition to fight the illicit trade in opiates. At the meeting, an overview of the current events within the Paris Pact was carried out, from Afghanistan onward, an update was made of the initiative of the Paris Pact, and then the priority recommendations were identified at the meetings of the Working Group of Paris Pact experts as support for pillars II, III and IV of the Vienna Declaration. reviewed again and confirmed at the relevant meeting.

The representative of the Office for Combating Drugs of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Mrs. Nina Grba, also took part in the meeting, who emphasized the importance of the existence of such a group and initiative, considering that the problem of drug abuse is not a problem of only one institution, group, or individual, and that solving it requires multidisciplinary engagement, both at the national and international level. Thanks to the meetings of the Working Group, unified data in drug policies is obtained more quickly, and it is possible for smaller countries to participate in international cooperation. The Office for Combating Drugs of the Government of the Republic of Serbia actively participates in the meetings of the working group of the Paris Pact initiative, as well as the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia. Representatives of the Office have a very successful cooperation with the Paris Pact Liaison Officer in Serbia. The Office will continue to support this type of initiative in the future.
