Director of the Office for Combating Drugs Milan Pekić had a meeting with representatives of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Alberto Pasquero advisor for organized crime and Viacheslav Belan advisor for organized crime. The topic was to inform the OSCE representatives on the results that the Office had achieved, planned activities as well as possibilities of organizing joint activities between the Office and the OSCE Mission.
Director informed the interlocutors on the Office activities so far, its organization, staffing. He particularly underlined the activities aimed at implementation of the national Strategy for the Prevention of Drug Abuse for the period 2014–2021 and accompanying Action Plan for the period 2014-2017. Director notified the OSCE representatives of the Office engagement in creation of complex cooperation model in the field of general and special prevention, which was supposed to enable connectivity between all stakeholders involved into prevention- local self-governments and ministries. There was also a presentation of the Office activity on establishing network of contact persons on behalf of the public authorities, but also non-governmental sector, through which the level of implementation of the national Strategy would be followed.
There was also presentation of the Office for the upcoming period which apart from creation of recommendations for implementation of the Action Plan at local level includes also the creation of a mid-term evaluation of the respective, during the third quarter of 2016. Likewise, the emphasis was put on expanding network of cooperation with the civil society, like establishing contacts with Belgrade Centre for Security Policy.
Director notified the OSCE representatives of the planned visit by the delegation of the TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument) expert mission to the Office on 23 May 2016, as well as of the Office’s efforts to carry out analysis of legal regulations in the field of combating drugs (activity was determined by the Action Plan for implementation of the national Strategy for the Prevention of Drug Abuse for the period 2014–2021). With the aim of carrying out this activity, the Office applied for help at the TAIEX mission, which made the decision to send competent experts during the third quarter this year to Serbia, which would make the insight into the harmonization of legal regulations of the Republic of Serbia with the EU law.
Mr. Pasquero said that he was pleased with the progress in work of the Office for Combating Drugs and underlined that in the upcoming period it would be necessary to continue cooperation between the Office and the OSCE Mission to Serbia, in order to achieve envisaged standards and adequate results in the field of combating drugs.
